Social Media Content Ideas (and a Few Tips) for the Week of July 8th

Have you ever wanted to up your Social Media game, but stumped how to get there and what to post?

An easy (and fun) strategy to ensure that you have something to post each and every day is to celebrate with a wacky and unusual holiday!

Why is this strategy a winner?

Posts like this are a surefire way to get likes, comments and shares. Provide a great graphic and a prompt and watch the engagement roll in. For example: Today is National French Fries Day and we want to know, what restaurant has the best fries? Or Today is National French Fries Day and here’s our favorite recipe!

Everyday there are multiple “holidays” you can choose to celebrate. This makes your content interesting for you and allows you to get others involved. For example: Post a Poll on Facebook: Sunday, July 15th is both Orange Chicken Day and Gummi Worm Day. Vote on which day you think we should celebrate and we’ll do a giveaway! If Orange Chicken wins, we’ll give away a $20 gift card to China Star and if Gummi Worms win, we’ll ship a box filled with 10 bags of Gummi Worms to the winner!

Often times you can tie in your business (or another local business), a client, etc. This creates goodwill and a sense of community. For example: Today is Sugar Cookie Day and we’re celebrating! Stop by our office today and pick up a fresh cookie courtesy of our friends at the Cookie Shoppe!

Here are some days you can celebrate next week!

SUNDAY, JULY 8th: Chocolate with Almonds Day, Math 2.0 Day
MONDAY, JULY 9th: Sugar Cookie Day, International Town Criers Day
TUESDAY, JULY 10th: Cow Appreciation Day, Don’t Step on a Bee Day, Teddy Bear Picnic, Pina Colada Day
WEDNESDAY, JULY 11th: Blueberry Muffin Day, World Population Day
THURSDAY, JULY 12th: Etch a Sketch Day, Different Colored Eyes Day, Simplicity Day, Pecan Pie Day, New Conversations Day
FRIDAY, JULY 13th: French Fries Day, Embrace Your Geekness Day, International Rock Day
SATURDAY, JULY 14th: Shark Awareness Day, Pandemonium Day, Grand Marnier Day, Mac & Cheese Day
SUNDAY, JULY 15th: Gummi Worm Day, Tapioca Pudding Day, Pet Fire Safety Day, Orange Chicken Day

You may also want to consider celebrating something all month long! For example: For Independent Retailer Month, you could plug a local business each day. For Ice Cream Month, you could plug a flavor, topping, ice cream stand, etc. each day. The possibilities are endless!

JULY is…

  • Ice Cream Month
  • Horseradish Month
  • Independent Retailer Month
  • Cell Phone Courtesy Month
  • Picnic Month

Here are a few tips to get your creative juices flowing and arm you with the resources you need:

  • To create beautiful graphics to include with your posts, check out Canva or WordSwag. I use both, but definitely prefer WordSwag if I’m looking to create a post directly from my phone.
  • Prompts to include with your posts may include: caption this, fill in the blank, a question, etc. Basically anything that falls under the “ask the audience” category.
  • Tie your posts into Daily Themes and be sure to use the hashtag if posting on Twitter/Instagram to extend your reach. Some themes you may want to consider include: Motivation Monday, Trivia Tuesday, Tuesday Treat, Wacky Wednesday, Wednesday Wisdom, Thursday Thoughts, Thankful Thursday, TGIF, Friday Fun, Selfie Saturday, Saturday Swag, Sunday Sunday Funday and Sunday Selfie.
  • Go through the list of holidays for the week and pick one per day. Take the time to create and schedule each post, so you can go into next week ahead of the game!

I hope these ideas inspire you to get creative with your Social Media content!
